The much awaited Black Friday is finally being celebrated today with its heaps of sale offers by various international brands from across the globe.
Though Black Friday was previously celebrated in the United States, but soon after got adopted by other nations and became a global phenomenon within no time. A research, conducted by Black Friday Global, showed that 74% Pakistanis know what Black Friday is with 53% aiming to engage in this year’s shopping spree.
Like every other nation, Black Fridays are celebrated in Pakistan with various online and offline brands offering mega sales. According to the research, an average Pakistani will spend over Rs. 4,600 during these Black Friday sales; spending on items like electronics, clothing, shoes etc.
Upon analyzing Google data, Black Friday stats and surveys conducted in 55 countries with 12,000 participants, the team discovered that the trend has doubled the interest of internet users in the last five years, with average global growth rate of interest being 117%. Where India showed the lowest 39% increase in five years, South Africa showed the highest growth rate of 9,900%. Growth rates in Turkey and France were 4,900%, 2,400% in Japan, and 43% in US among others.
The survey also suggested that over half of the Pakistani population aims to indulge in Black Friday this year, marking almost 3% increase as compared to 2017. This year, around 13.88% of bargain hunters will opt for traditional brick and mortar stores (much lower rate in comparison to 2017’s 32.35%), 30.56% opting for online stores, while 55.56% will go for both.
Black Friday is a very important event for retailers, domestic and local economy, average consumers, and also acts as a major boost for country’s economy as compared to a regular Friday. Pakistan being at the first position sees a whopping 11,525% increase in sales followed by Hungary at 9,750%. The least sales percentage growth happens in Thailand with a 46% rise, whereas the global average is 624%.
Moreover, talking about money spent by consumers during the big sale day showed that Asian customers, including Pakistanis, Malaysians, Filipinos etc. spend lesser amounts of money as compared to buyers in North America and Europe. Analysis showed that an average Pakistani is willing to pay Rs. 4,604 ($44) in total for their Black Friday shopping cart.
People go gaga during Black Friday sales; be it for electronics, make-up or clothing. The survey showed that the most popular item to buy on Black Friday is clothes, followed by electronics. Other items including books, sports accessories and undergarments were among the least popular in the list.
Black Friday sales offered a global average discount of almost 55% back in 2017, leading to a lot of savings for people. The USA saw a 68% discount, followed by Canada with 66%. Pakistan, on the other hand is not too far behind with an average 57% discount on Black Friday, making Rs. 6,103 as possible savings per Pakistani customer.
