‘Aquaman’ sequel gets a release date

After the successful underwater movie ‘Aquaman’, the makers have now announced its sequel is set to bow on December 22, 2022.

‘Aquaman 2’ will be produced by ‘Aquaman’ director James Wan and Peter Safran. It has over-performed for Warner Bros. when hit theatres on November last year, with $68.7 million in its opening weekend in North America. The title gained momentum in subsequent weeks and has hit $330 million in North America and $805 million internationally. It’s currently the 20th-highest worldwide grosser of all time.

The film had Jason Momoa play the title role, with Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman in supporting parts. Reportedly, the studio is also developing horror spin-off from the ‘Aquaman’ series, titled ‘The Trench’.

While fans will have to wait a few years before diving back in, but Warner Bros. has avoided competition with the ‘Avatar’ franchise which is set to finally come through with the Avatar sequels in December 2020.
