Mohammad Amir maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs failed to take Pakistan to victory after the side lost to Australia by 42 runs in the much anticipated Match 17 of ICC World Cup 2019 on Wednesday at Taunton.

Fakhar Zaman depart early, felling victim to Pat Cummins who caught by K Richardson on naught. Nathan Coulter Nile picked the all important wicket of Babar Azam who was out on 30, after getting caught by K Richardson.

Pat Cummins dismissed Imam Haq who got caught behind after posting 53 runs on the board. Cummins striked again with the wicket of veteran batsman Shoaib Malik, who got caught behind on naught. The Aussie speedster picked his fourth wicket, with the scalp of Asif Ali who got caught behind on 5.

Aaron Finch picked the crucial scalp of Mohamamad Hafeez who got caught at deep on 45 by Mitchell Starc.

K Richardson picked up the wicket of Hasan Ali, who got caught by Usman Khawaja and departed after a blistering knock of 32 off 15 deliveries.

Mitchell Starc got the breakthrough with the wicket of Wahab Riaz who got caught behind on 45. The speedster striked again with the wicket of Mohammad Amir, who got bowled on naught.

Earlier, Pakistan restricted Australia to 307 runs all out, thanks to speedster Mohammad Amir maiden five wicket haul. Mohammad Amir figures of five wickets for 30 runs in his 10-overs dismantling the aggressive Australian batting line, which was once looking set to impose a target of well above 350.

Aaron Finch reached fifty in the 17th over, as the Aussies openers posted over hundred runs stand.  This is the first 100-run opening stand against Pakistan in a World Cup game in 23 years.

David Warner reached the hundred mark in the 36th over, the Aussie opener hit his 15th hundred off 102 deliveries. The opening batsman finally departed after a well made knock of 107, after he was picked by Imam ul Haq off Shaheen Shah Afridi's delivery.

Mohammad Amir got the first wicket for Pakistan, picking up Aaron Finch, who got caught by Mohammad Hafeez after a blistering knock of 82 runs, finally ending the 146 runs opening stand. Amir grabbed his second, after Usman Khawaja hit straight into the hands of Wahab Riaz on 18, the speedster picked his third picking up Shaun Marsh on 23.

The street-smart fast bowler picked two scalps in his last over, as he lbwed Alex Carey on 20, Mitchell Starc was the last man to depart for Australia after getting caught by Shoaib Malik on 3.

Mohammad Hafeez got the wicket of Steve Smith, who got caught by Asif Ali on 10. Shaheen Shah Afridi opened his wicket column after he bowled Glen Maxwell on 20.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first against Australia.

The Men in Green have dropped Shadab Khan, and have picked speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi in his place. Meanwhile, two changes are for Australia as Shaun Marsh and Kane Richardson join the team.

"Unfortunately we couldn't play the last game, but we practised hard in the last few days so the momentum is very high for us," said Sarfaraz after the toss.

Pakistan have not been in action since their 14 run win against England nine days ago, after their last match versus Sri Lanka was washed out. Meanwhile, Australia will be keen to get back to winning ways after their 36 run loss at the hands of India.
