ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday submitted a list of 14 lawyers out of them the Special Court will select one to defend former Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf (retd) in high treason case.
The Court in the last month had granted four weeks more to the federal government to finalise the panel of lawyers.
A three-judge Special Court — headed by Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Tahira Safdar, and comprised Justice Nazar Akbar and Justice Shahid Kareem — heard federal government’s compliant against former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Pervez Musharraf of high treason under Article 6 of Constitution.
Ministry of Law and Justice on June 27, 2019 had submitted names of six lawyers, including Barrister Ali Zafar, former law minister, Raja Amir Abbas, ex-Additional Prosecutor General NAB, Shah Khawar, former additional judge of the Lahore High Court, Riaz Hanif Rahi, who had filed a petition against Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Isfaq Shah and Tahir Malik. However, they did not respond to the government request therefore new list was submitted.
