English media reports reveal sales of gaming consoles have sky-rocketed for the first time since December 2008, because of the unprecedented sales of ‘Grand Theft Auto’.
The Rockstar action-adventure game was bought by more than 2.6 million people in the UK in two weeks which accounted for more than half of all the video games sold in September.
Entertainment industry reports reveal ‘GTA V’ has already raked in over $14.5 million in UK sales, and with the release of other titles such as ‘FIFA 14’, retailers have amassed over $ 290 million in just one month.
Reportedly the figure is a 45 percent year-on-year increase, and for the first time the game retail sector has climbed up since December 2008.
Similarly in US Sony’s PlayStation boss Jack Tretton reportedly was asked for his views on the US games retail sector.
"We're talking about the seventh year of a console and I guess if you used a TV analogy, you might say, boy, the re-runs of a show we released seven years ago aren't doing as well as before," he reportedly told media outlets.
"The new machine, and the new console war is going to reinvigorate the industry.”
On the other hand, following the online launch of ‘Grand Theft Auto V’, gamers have once again reported on gaming forums the presence of celebrity doppelgangers in the video game, which include American supermodel Kate Upton and rapper Kanye West. Before this a look-a-like of Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg was spotted as CEO of a social media parody titled ‘LifeInvader’.
