Perhaps unsurprisingly, news that Oscar-winner Ben Affleck will play Batman in the highly-anticipated ‘Man of Steel’ sequel has outraged many fans.
While social media is storming with criticism from Bruce Wayne supporters who scoff at the bearded actor, ‘Avengers’ Director Joss Whedon showed support for the new caped crusader.
Despite working on a rival superhero franchise he tweeted favoring the casting decision,
‘Affleck'll crush it. He's got the chops, he's got the chin — just needs the material. Affleck & Cavill toe to toe — I'm in.’
According to English media sources he also said in a statement “Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.”
Zack Snyder’s yet-untitled superhero flick is slated for July 2014 release. The film will star the ‘Argo’ filmmaker opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise his role as Superman.
