seoulSEOUL: South Korean shares closed 2.89 percent higher Friday after the European Central Bank announced plans to help under pressure lenders amid the sovereign debt crisis.

 

The KOSPI ended up 49.45 points at 1,759.77.

Financial stocks led gains, and construction firms, refiners and chemical companies also rebounded from recent falls.
