Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co Ltd, with headquarters in Karachi and two regional branches in Lahore, Islamabad and representative offices at Peshawar and Quetta is one of the largest multinational companies in Pakistan. With a workforce of more than 7000 employees (including joint ventures), Siemens is one of the largest and most important employers in the country.
Siemens not only established production set up in Karachi for production of Distribution and Power Transformers, Motors, Generators, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage Switchgear and other associated electrical equipment but also made joint ventures with Pakistan Government to set up Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP) at Haripur and Carrier Telephone Industries (CTI) in Islamabad. Many of the products manufactured at the state-of-the-art industrial complex in Karachi are also exported to various countries of the region. Siemens is also exporting services and Pakistani Engineers trained at Siemens are working at some of the most prestigious projects in the region.
To date, Siemens has added over 2,500 MW to Pakistan's power generation capacity. This represents 15% of the country's installed output. In the Communications business area also Siemens has maintained its strong position for the last 55 years. To date, around 60% majority of Pakistan's 4.5 million telephone lines have been supplied by Siemens.
Siemens' first office in what is now Pakistan opened in 1922. Siemens Pakistan Engineering Company Ltd was founded in 1953 as a private company. In 1963, the company was reorganised as a public limited company.
Siemens has been receiving the top 25 company's award for several years and this is not the only award which Siemens receives from prestigious organisations. Siemens over the last few years has also received the following awards:
1. The Gender Sensitive Management Award given by two well known NGOs viz WEBCOP and AASHA.
2. Siemens Pakistan was given an award at the First Advertising Campaign Exhibition of Pakistan organised by Institute of Advertising Iqra University for the Best Outdoor Advertising campaign of its Home Appliances.
1. Siemens has for a number of years received two awards from FPCCI at it's Export Trophy Awards Ceremonies in the following two categories.
(a) Export of Engineering Goods (Electrical)
(b) Export of Engineering Services (Invisible earnings)
2. Best presented Accounts award given by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and the Institute of Cost and Management accountants of Pakistan.
3. Siemens Pakistan was awarded first prize for its wall calendar and second prize for its desk calendar. The awards were given by the National Council of Culture and Arts which has been holding this competition for past 34 years.
4. Siemens Pakistan was awarded the Environment Excellence Award 2004 by the National Forum for Environment and Health.
5. Siemens won two quality awards for (a) Distribution (b) Power Transformers after PTD Siemens A.G. Quality League evaluation. In this annual evaluation it is Quality league that decides the winners among the Transformer Manufacturing factories around the globe on the basis of their quality performance throughout the year.
Siemens is actively involved in university education in Pakistan. In 1997, the company set up a program to award gold medals to the best engineering students at Pakistani universities. Siemens offers full scholarships to students in medical, engineering and business and runs a three-year apprenticeship course at its factory in Karachi.
