The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) on Monday announced its 20-member team to take part in the Islamic Solidarity Games football championship being held in Saudi Arabia from April 9. "The team led by Wapda's defender Tanveer Ahmad and army's Jaffar Khan as its vice captain was approved by President, PFF, Faisal Saleh Hayat,", said a spokesman of the PFF.
FOLLOWING IS THE SQUAD: (Goalkeepers) Jaffar Khan and Muhammad Shahzad (Defenders) Muhammad Shahid, Mehmood Khan, Muhammad Imran, Aurangzeb, Tanveer Ahmed,Yasir Sabir and Ijaz Ahmed. (Mid fielders) Imran Niazi, Zahid Hameed, Atiqur Rehman, and Mohammad Zahid. (Strikers) Muhammad Essa, Arif Mahmood, Farooq Shah, Abdul Aziz, Imran Hussain,Naveed Akram and Shahid Ahmed.
He said in the 16-country football competition Pakistan has been placed in Group D along with Morocco, Kuwait and Malaysia.
FOLLOWING IS THE FORMATION OF GROUPS:
(Group A) Iran, Oman, Sudan and Tajikistan
(Group B) Cameroon, Mali, Syria and Chad
(Group C) Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Palestine and Yemen
(Group D) Pakistan, Morocco, Kuwait and Malaysia
He said Pakistan will launch its campaign in the event by taking on strong Northwest African nation Morocco in their match on April 9.
"The credit of entering Pakistani team into Islamic Games's soccer tourney goes to President, PFF as in the past the national football federation used to withdraw it's teams from competitions, the worst example being the 1984 and 1995 SAF Games", he maintained.
FOLLOWING IS THE PROGRAMME OF MATCHES:
(April 9) Mali vs Syria, Algeria vs Palestine, Kuwait vs Malaysia, Morocco vs Pakistan, Saudi Arabia vs Yemen, Cameroon vs Chad.
(April 10) Oman vs Sudan, Imran vs Tajikistan.
(April 11) Saudi Arabia vs Palestine, Cameroon vs Syria, Morocco vs Malaysia, Pakistan vs Kuwait, Chad vs Mali, Yemen vs Algeria.
(April 12) Iran vs Sudan, Tajikistan vs Oman.
(April 13) Syria vs Chad, Palestine vs Yemen, Malaysia vs Pakistan, Morocco vs Kuwait, Saudi Arabia vs Algeria.
(April 14) Sudan vs Tajikistan, Iran vs Oman.
(April 15 and 16) quarter finals.
(April 18) semi finals)
(April 20) third place match and the final.
