The seventh clash in soccer arena between Pakistan and Bahrain will take place on Wednesday, 16th May 2007. The second leg of Group-A in the 29th Olympic Games qualifier (second round) will be played at Lahore's Punjab Stadium - 24 hours before the inaugural ceremony of third AFC President's Cup 2007.
According to a spokesman of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), it will be second ever clash between two U-21 teams of the two nations in ongoing qualifiers. The first match saw Bahrain winning 8-0 at Manama on 28th February 2007.
Earlier Pakistan played the Arabian country four times in U-19 events, and once in international level when Abdul Ghafoor Majna-led Pakistan outplayed the Bahraini team 5-1 during 7th Asian Games at Tehran on 6th September 1974.
"If our team can beat them with such score line in past, we can again repeat that feat," said by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)'s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat.
Moreover, Secretary Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Captain (Retd) Naveed Akram Cheema while addressing a meeting of organising committee of third AFC President's Cup said: "The coming AFC President's Cup will not only occasion of football but there will be many items to attract the spectators. We will go all out make the first-ever AFC event at Lahore a terrific occasion.
The eight-team competition will run through 17th-27th May 2007 at Lahore's Punjab Stadium which will host thirteen matches while two matches are being awarded to WAPDA Sports Complex, Kot Lakhpat.
Kyrgyzstan's Dordoi-Dynamo will be defending their title. Other teams in the fray are Sri Lanka's Ratnam Sports Club, Khemara of Cambodia, former champions Regar-Tadaz of Tajikistan, Tatung Club of Chinese Taipei, Transport United of Bhutan, Mahendra Police Club of Nepal and Pakistan Army.
