The government has appointed Syed Kaleem Imam, a BS-20 officer of Police Service of Pakistan, as Inspector General of Islamabad Police. He has served the police department for more than 22 years, and worked in the UN with a distinguished record, and has a remarkable academic record, says a press release. He recently represented Pakistan in a senior training programme at the US.
He is an expert in dealing with issues of terrorism, has a unique perspective on dealing with crimes, handling law and order and security issues. He is committed to introduce a culture free of corruption, and one that improves governance and working environment of the police system. Imam has served as SSP Rawalpindi, SSP Islamabad twice, SP Sibi, SP Naseerabad, Additional Director FIA Islamabad airport and at Liberia and Mozambique as senior UN officer.
He has been conferred three national awards, i.e., the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal, President Police Medal and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, and two international UN peace medals in recognition of his meritorious services. He has done masters in philosophy, LLM in Human Rights Law from UK and is currently doing Ph.D from the International Islamic University, Islamabad.
Imam was the officer who investigated death of Pakistani cricket team's coach Bob Woolmer. His investigation established that Woolmer's death was natural and debunked the myth that any Pakistani cricketer was involved in his death. People have responded positively to Imam's appointment expressing confidence in his abilities and credentials. Kalbe Abbas, a BS-20 officer has been appointed Deputy Director General, FIA while Javed Iqbal also a BS-20 officer has been appointed Inspector General, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
