Sugar mills chimney creates air pollution
NAUDERO: The ash particles that are emitted from the chimney of Naudero Sugar Mills are hazardous for the health of citizens living in the town and villages nearby and also damage crops, complain residents.
Mills administration is using rice husk which is cheap and easily available instead of furnace oil.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) Naudero President, Ghulam Hyder Narejo, had written a letter to the managing director of the mill saying that the problem did not exist till 1974.
Previously, furnace oil was used in the boilers and there were no complaints. But now, rice husk is being used instead and it generates ash particles which have made lives of the citizens miserable; however, no action has been taken by the mill administration to control the air pollution.
The air has been polluted as ash particles fly all over and land in all houses of the town due to which housewives face hardships and keep their pots covered round the clock and during cooking they undergo severe hardships as well.
Worst affected are the guava orchids which look black instead of green due to heavy fall of the ash particles.
Dr. Khair Muhammad of Chandka Hospital Chest Ward said that these particles are very hazardous for the people. These will affect eyes and & lungs which will create lot of problems especially for the aged people.
People of Naudero have demanded of the owners to take care of the health of the citizens instead of creating problems for them and install required filters immediately.
They have also demanded of the Environmental Protection Agency authorities to take action without further loss of time to protect their lives and fulfill their obligations.
