ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) is observing World Water Day 2013 with theme of "International Year of Water Cooperation" on Friday.
The PARC will organize an event in this regard in collaboration with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Planning Commission of Pakistan (PCP), Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Pakistan Water Partnership (PWP) here on Friday.
On this occasion, eminent national and international water experts and scientists will present their papers to share their knowledge and experience with participants, said a statement here on Thursday.
The objective of this international year is to raise awareness, both on the potential for increased cooperation and on the challenges facing water management in light of the increase in demand for water access, allocation and services.
International World Water Day is held annually on March 22 as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating March 22, 1993 as the first World Water Day.
