rehman_400ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik on Thursday constituted a committee to ensure permanent monitoring of private security companies and to propose security measures for banks.

Director General, National Police Bureau (NPB), Waseem Kausar will head the Committee while Home Secretaries of all provinces, Joint Secretary (Security), JS (Law) of Ministry of Interior, Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan, four members each from Pakistan Bankers Association and Security Chiefs of State Bank/major banks will be its members.

Chairing a meeting in Karachi, he also directed the NPB to organize a three-day seminar in Federal Capital,to be attended by security chiefs of all banks for their proper training with modern techniques of security.

He also asked Secretary Interior to arrange quarterly meetings with bankers in Karachi with Interior Minister. The Minister for Interior thanked the participants and showed great Concern of the Federal Government on the incidents of frequent bank heists in recent past, in which, unfortunately, found the involvement of Security Guards in such bank robberies.

The Minister emphasized the need for enhancement of foolproof security measures and showed concern over the lack of proper monitoring system of security companies, recruitment of security guards without proper verification and ultimately noticed the use of robbed money by terrorists.

The bankers thanked the minister for his personal interest towards such a great issue and appreciated his efforts for bringing peace in Karachi and offered their fullest cooperation and support in the efforts of the government.

They offered many valuable suggestions which led the meeting to the decisions including revisiting of Private Security Companies Rules/Policies, establishing regulatory body at Federal/Provincial levels, recruiting security guards from local population, proper verification of security guards through National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), proper training of security guards by NPB and other training centres and establishing of Elite Security Force for security of banks and commercial centres throughout the country.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Interior, Additional Chief Secretary Sindh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Inspector General of Police Sindh, Director General, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Director General of NPB, Deputy Governor, State Bank of Pakistan, Presidents & CEOs of National Bank/all Commercial Banks and other government officials.
