ch-Shujaat12-640x480HYDERABAD: The chief of Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said the issue of Kalabagh Dam should be buried for ever adding that those who want a national debate on this issue are the Dam's proponents.

Addressing a public meeting in Dadu's Alipur village on Sunday, he said there was no need to revive a dead issue."We as a nation should move ahead. Kalabagh Dam can't be built," he said.

The PML-Q's chief said at this crucial juncture in the country's history when a democractically elected government was completing its constitutional term in office and the elections were drawing closer, the dam issue would have a divisive effect on the people.

"The nation needs unity to cope with the challenges posed to it. We need to avoid raking up the divisive things," he suggested.

Hussain recalled that his party bagged the second highest number of votes in 2008 general elections after the Pakistan Peoples Party and thanked the people of Sindh for their support to his party.

He said that the PML-Q during its previous government in Sindh had carried out a record development in the province by providing basic facilities and developing infrastructure and maintaining the law and order situation.

The Q-League's chief advised the political leaders who were dismayed with the government on the local government issue to prefer negotiations to address the issue instead of the other means.

Speaking on the occasion, the PML-Q's general secretary Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said the country was passing through a sensitive period of time.

"We have to use the power of our vote to select leadership which is able to fulfill our needs, provide us education, health, a clean environment, agricultural and industrial growth," he said.

He expressed hope that the elections would be held on time and that a peaceful transition of power to the new government would take place.

The meeting was also addressed by Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Relief Haleem Adil Shaikh, former Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Yousuf, Abdul Sattar Khoso and other leaders of the party.
