imageISLAMABAD: The fruits and vegetable vendors seem unwilling to display official rate lists and are continuing to overcharge in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi during the holy month of Ramazan.

The consumers complained that the vendors were violating rate lists issued by the authorities. They said that there was no check on the prices of vegetables and fruits in open market. They have demanded the district administration to take effective steps to overcome the price-hike.

Razia Begum,a shopper at Karachi Company, said that prices of same vegetable are different at each stall and there is no check on the prices.

Mango was being sold in different markets at Rs 90 to 100 per kg however in Weekly bazaar its rate was only Rs 70 to 80 per kg, said a shopper at G-7. There is no proper check and balance system to redress these violations, he added.

Another shopper told that ICT City administration prepares and issues the price list to the shopkeepers for displaying at a prominent place of the shop.

However, the shopkeepers either put the list at an invisible place or do not display it at all.

When contacted, the concerned District Administration and CDA officials said that they were striving hard to ensure display of rate lists in the markets.

Authorities check the prices on regular basis and they are also taking strict actions in case of any malpractice, he added.
