ISLAMABAD: Tomato prices have increased sharply in the city due short supply and high demand due to coming Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to rate list issued by District Administration, price of the tomato currently stands at Rs 96 per kilogram (kg) in the Sasta bazaars of Sector G-7, Bahara Kahu, Pakistan Town and Rawat, while Rs 110 to Rs 120 per kg at retail level.
Previously it was available to consumers at Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg at the wholesale and Rs 68 to Rs 72 per kg at the retail level, but the dwindling supply from both provinces has pushed its rates beyond the buying capacity of a large segment of the population.
