imageISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday urged Islamabad police to become people friendly and fulfill responsibility of securing life and property of citizens.

Addressing the passing out parade of 396 officers of Islamabad Police here, the Minister said the government wanted to bring basic reforms in the working of public institutions to make them respond to needs of people.

He said Pakistan is passing through a critical time and its law enforcement agencies need to improve their performance.

He paid tribute to jawans of law enforcement agencies who lost their lives in the line of duty.

He urged that Islamabad police should come up to the standards which it set at the time of its establishment.

The Interior Minister advised that the police should be kind to people and a source of comfort for them.

The Minister assured that all demands of Islamabad police would be met and steps would be taken for their welfare and better future of their families.

He expressed concern at negative activities of some elements in Islamabad police and warned those involved in negative activities should set right their direction so that the sacredness of police uniform is not tarnished.

The Minister informed that 14 police stations of Islamabad were computerized and the remaining five would be connected soon.

He said if police become people friendly and adopt a decent attitude then 50 percent problems of people could be resolved.

Every religion and civilized societies stress on adopting a good attitude towards people, he added.

The Minister said police should only be strict with those who violate the law and oppress other people.

Islam focuses on the rights of people and policemen get innumerable opportunities to serve the people, he said adding serving people with a good attitude would also bring a positive change and revolution in the lives of policemen.

Earlier, the Minister gave away awards to the probationer policemen who won distinction during their training and inspected the parade.
