imageGovt releases Rs 306 million for agri-development

ISLAMABAD: Government has released Rs. 306 million for the development of agriculture sector in the country under its Federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the financial year 2013-14.

According the data of Planning Commission of Pakistan, a sum of Rs. 92 million has been released for the establishment of research for agriculture development project and Rs. 48 million for National Institute of Genomic and Advance Bio-Technology (NIGAB) to promote agri-sector in the country.

Upto mid of current month, the government has released Rs. 28 million for special programme for the strengthening of SPS facilities and quality inspection services in compliance with WTO. Establishment of an integrated national animal and plant health inspection under the projects to make the agri-products as per with international standards.

For harnessing the agri-potential exists in the costal belt, government has allocated Rs. 52.7 million For strengthening of costal agriculture research station Bhawani Balochistan out of the total allocation it has released Rs. 6 million to promote the agriculture sector in those areas.

Under PSDP, 2013-14 Rs. 26 million released for Pak-China Cooperation for agriculture research and development out of its total allocation of Rs. 65 million and Rs. 8 million for the establishment of National Bio-Saline Agriculture Programme .

To promote the horticulture sector of the country , Rs. 3.200 million has been released for the establishment of horticulture unit for nursery fruit plant and vegetable seed certification system in the country out of its total allocations of Rs. 8 million during fiscal year 2013-14.
