imageKARACHI: Pakistan will be facing tough times in the series against Sri Lanka, former chief selector Mohsin Khan said on Wednesday.

"Keeping in view the batting, bowling firepower of Sri Lanka team, it will pose a threat to Pakistan team," he told APP in an interview here.

He said Sri Lankan team got a blend of youth and experience with players like Sangakkara, Dilshan, Malinga, Kulasekera, Mathews, Herath are experienced campaigners.

"Sri Lankans also got good backup in shape of number of highly rated youngsters in their line-up," he commented.

He said it will be good news for Pakistan bowlers that experienced batsman Mahela Jayawardene has opted out of T20 and ODI series because of family reasons. But he is expected to be back for Test series.

"Mahela is the backbone of Sri Lankan so that will give some respite to Pakistan bowlers in T20 and ODIs," he said.

"Sri Lankans are well balanced combination in all the formats of the game and are capable of giving Pakistan testing times," he added.

He said while South African batsmen struggled against Pakistan spinners, Sri Lankan batsmen handle them well.

"I think motivating, inspiring and giving confidence to young guns would be very important. They way Anwar Ali and Bilawal Bhatti emerged on the scene it was heartening," former Pakistan coach, said.

Mohsin said ruling out of paceman Muhammad Irfan from the Sri Lankan series was also bad news.

He feel that there was huge talent in the Pakistan team but team is badly lacking in planning, tactics and strategy

He said working out proper planning, tactics and streagy between coach and captain was most important facotor in the outcome of the series.

He said he won made famous clean-sweep against England with almost the same team. But Pakistan tactics were weak against South Africa," he remarked.

Former opening batsman Mohsin Khan was surprise with Pakistan not going for histroic 3-0 clean-sweep against South in their territory after winning the first two ODIs.

He optioned that Pakistan could won the series have Pakistan Shahid Afridi and Hafeez fielded against a weakened South team which was without messrs Smith, Kallis and Steyn.

"Resting Afridi and Hafeez was mistake as South African struggled against them," he added.

He said inconsistency in the selection of the team are going against Pakistan.

He expressed his surprise that selection committee is working without the chief selector.

"What to say there a lot of confusion in the selection committee," former chief selector, concluded.
