FARAH CITY: Three children were killed and four others injured in a bomb blast in the capital of Afghanistan’s western Farah province on Sunday, an official said.
The blast took place inside a scrap depot in the 5th police district of Farah City, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Rahman Zhwandai said.
A resident of the area, Shamsuddin, said the children were playing in front of a scrap shop when the explosion happened. The blast is believed to have resulted from unexploded ordnance.
Public Health Director Abdul Hakim Rasuli confirmed the incident, saying they had received four wounded children at the Farah Civil Hospital.
One of the children was transferred in critical condition to a medical facility in neighbouring Herat province, Rasuli said. The victims are under 13 years of age.
