Govt jacks up petrol price by Rs12.90; diesel raised by Rs3.72 per litre

  • New prices will be effective for Tuesday, September 8
Published Updated

The government increased the price of petrol by Rs12.90 per litre and the high-speed diesel (HSD) price by Rs3.72 per litre, effective from Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Monday revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism.

The price of Motor Spirit (petrol) was raised by Rs12.90 per litre, taking it from Rs345.87 to Rs358.77 per litre.

HSD saw a hike of Rs3.72 per litre, rising from Rs378.05 to Rs381.77 per litre.

The new prices will remain in effect until Tuesday, in line with the government’s ongoing practice of adjusting fuel prices based on international oil markets and other cost factors.

In the previous review on Friday, the government raised the price of diesel by Rs3.74 per litre and decreased the petrol price by Rs3.13 per litre.
