KARACHI: The Government of Sindh and Hunan Province of the People’s Republic of China Sunday took a significant step towards strengthening institutional, economic and people-to-people ties with the signing of a Letter of Intent on cooperation between the two sides.
The Letter of Intent was signed by Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister for Transport & Mass Transit and Information, Government of Sindh, and Guo Ning, Director-General, Hunan Foreign Affairs Office (FAO).
The signing marks an important milestone in expanding cooperation between Sindh and Hunan, creating a framework for greater engagement in areas of mutual interest and opening avenues for stronger economic, trade, investment, technological and cultural linkages.
The ceremony was attended by Qassim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh for Investment and Public-Private Partnership Projects, and Yasir Iqbal Butt, Consul General of Pakistan in Guangzhou, along with senior officials and representatives from both sides.
The development comes against the backdrop of visit of Asif Ali Zardari, President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in April this year laying the solid foundation of cooperation between the two provinces.
The Letter of Intent is expected to facilitate closer institutional coordination, promote business-to-business engagement, encourage investment and technology partnerships, and create new opportunities for enterprises and communities in both provinces.
With Sindh’s diverse economic potential and Hunan’s strong industrial, technological and agricultural capabilities, the strengthened partnership provides a platform for practical cooperation and mutually beneficial development.
The signing also reinforces the shared commitment of both sides to translate the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China into tangible outcomes in the form of economic growth, investment, innovation, knowledge exchange and people-to-people connectivity.
