ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad District Administration has taken control of several educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to accommodate police and security personnel requisitioned from Punjab and other provinces, as security has been further tightened in the federal capital ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI’s) long march planned for September 27.

According to the official list made available by FDE, over 24 educational institutions have been handed over to Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and police for temporary accommodation of thousands of police personnel and officers requisitioned from various districts.

The government, according to the sources, has planned to deploy more than 30,000 police and other security personnel to protect Islamabad from protestors.

Over 18000 police personnel and officers have been requisitioned only from Punjab, whereas the Sindh government contributed more than 2000 police personnel, the sources further stated.

It was learnt on Thursday that no police force has arrived in Islamabad for the security duty, but the district administration has completed all requisite arrangements in this regard.

The list of educational institutions includes Islamabad Model Schools and Colleges, Islamabad Model Girls Schools, Islamabad Model Boys Schools and other federal educational institutions.

The designated institutions are located in various residential sectors of Islamabad including G-6/2, G-6/1/2, G-6/2, F-6/4, G-6/1/4, F-7/2/4, G-7/3/1, F-7/3, G-7/3/1, Noor Pur Shahan, Malpur, Taman, G-13/2, Tarnol, G-10/4, G-8/1, Pahag Panwal, Sihala, Rawal Dam, H-9, G-9/2, G-9/3, I-9/4 and I-10/2.

The FDE has announced holidays for students and teachers at the selected institutions from September 21 and decided that classes will be organised online.

The federal government has announced that so far no decision has been taken regarding the closure of all schools and colleges in the federal capital.

Meanwhile, Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M1) and Islamabad Dera Ismail Khan Motorway (M14), also known as the CPEC road, as well as GT Road (N5) closed from both directions for an indefinite period.
