ISLAMABAD: Follow-ing the imposition of an emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, law enforcement agencies have put security on high alert in the city to deal with any untoward situation.

Security has been tightened especially in the Red Zone, across the entire city, as well as at city entry and exit points.

A senior police official said that around 6,000 personnel from the Islamabad Police, Sindh Police and the Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been deployed across the city.

Police have also restricted entry to the Red Zone which houses the Diplomatic Enclave, Parliament House, Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the Supreme Court and other institutions. A heavy contingent of police personnel has been deployed on all roads leading to the Red Zone, as well as in other parts of the city.

Commandoes of city police, lady police, mobile patrolling, Anti Terrorists Squad (ATS), and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) were also deputed at different locations in the city.

Security at entry and points also enhanced and security personnel conducted random checking of vehicles entering the city.

The district administration also imposed Section 144 in the city. Strict directives have been issued to the police to take immediate action if banners or crowds appear at any location and arrest those violating Section 144, which restricts public gatherings.

The administration said the ban also applies under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, 2024. Violations of the Act may carry a prison sentence of up to three years, a fine, or both.
