KARACHI: The federal government has reconstituted the Board of Management of Pakistan State Oil Company Limited (PSO), appointing Mustafa Ramday as its chairman and independent director for a three-year term with immediate effect.

According to a company press release, Ramday has more than 28 years of experience in constitutional, commercial and energy-sector law. He is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a former Advocate General of Punjab.

His professional experience includes advising on the legal framework for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), power generation and clean energy projects, as well as representing oil, gas and power-sector entities in international arbitration.

The press release stated that Chambers & Partners ranks Ramday in its top tier for dispute resolution and litigation in Pakistan.

Upon assuming office, Ramday said he would serve PSO in an honorary capacity and would not charge the company any directors’ fees or claim work-related expenses.

He said he would not charge PSO for directors’ fees, travel, boarding, lodging or any other costs to which he might be entitled for work undertaken on behalf of the company, whether in Pakistan or abroad.

The reconstituted Board also includes Muneeb-ul-Haq, Aftab Hussain, Imtiaz Hussain Kazi and Saira Shahid Hussain as independent directors.

The ex-officio directors comprise the Secretary Petroleum Division, or a representative not below BS-20; Secretary Power Division, or a representative not below BS-20; Secretary Finance Division, or a representative not below BS-20; and the Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan LNG Limited.

PSO management and employees welcomed Ramday and the reconstituted Board, expressing expectations that the new leadership would help strengthen corporate governance, transparency and accountability, while creating long-term value for shareholders and supporting the company’s responsibility to meet Pakistan’s energy needs.
