ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Saturday said Pakistan was witnessing increased economic activity, growing diplomatic engagement and a revival of international sporting events, reflecting what he described as the country’s improving international image.
Addressing the Pakistan Tourism, Sports and Family Festival at F-9 Park, Islamabad, the minister said the government was committed to promoting sports, tourism and cultural activities to project Pakistan’s positive image internationally while creating opportunities for young people.
He credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision and the efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for what he described as Pakistan’s progress on the diplomatic and economic fronts.
Tarar said the successful organisation of international sporting events and visits by foreign dignitaries demonstrated Pakistan’s growing engagement with the international community.
Referring to recent sporting activities, he highlighted the successful hosting of a tri-nation cricket series, visits by the England and Sri Lankan cricket teams, the launch of a hockey league, squash championships and various youth talent initiatives.
He said such activities were helping promote Pakistan’s soft image while encouraging greater public participation in sports and other healthy recreational pursuits.
Speaking about the tent-pegging competition, the minister said traditional sports such as tent pegging, locally known as neza bazi, represented an important part of Pakistan’s cultural heritage and provided a platform for showcasing the country’s sporting traditions.
He particularly appreciated the participation of women and young girls in the competition, describing it as an encouraging development for the promotion of traditional sports.
Tarar said the festival offered residents of Islamabad and surrounding areas an opportunity to participate in healthy recreational activities while bringing together sports, culture and family entertainment.
He appreciated the organisers for successfully arranging the festival and said similar initiatives would help young people showcase their talent and strengthen their connection with Pakistan’s cultural traditions.
The minister reiterated that the government would continue supporting sporting, cultural and tourism-related activities to promote national development and create opportunities for people from all segments of society.
Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Tourism Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan also attended the festival.
