MADRID: Spain's total death toll from the coronavirus reached 27,133 on Thursday, health ministry data showed, five more than reported on Wednesday.

The ministry has stopped providing a daily death toll but said 56 people had died from the virus over the last seven days.

Confirmed cases climbed by 195 from the previous day to 240,660.

Spain is implementing a new methodology for logging deaths and cases, leading to fluctuations in its statistics and frequent revisions of data which officials warn are likely to continue for some time.
