ISLAMABAD: The Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation during July-April 2019-2020 jumped up to 11.22 percent from 6.51 percent during the same period last year, the Pakistan Economic Survey 2019-2020 revealed.
The Economic Survey 2019-2020 revealed that the CPI increase in perishable food items is the main contributory factor in jacking up inflation in the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, as it has recorded an increase of 34.7 percent against the decline of 7.1 percent during 2018-2019.
Inflation in non-perishable food items is recorded at 12.4 percent during 2019-2020 against 5.5 percent during last year. The significant rise in the Federal Excise Duty (FED) on cigarettes puts upward pressure on the alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which was recorded at 21.9 percent during Jul-Apr 2019-2020 as against 10.7 percent during the same period last year.
