The government has predicted that coronavirus cases in Pakistan will double and can jump to 300,000 by the end of June.
The government said it has not been 'caught off-guard', saying the spike in cases is not something out of the blue. In a tweet on Thursday, the government said the authorities had expected the rise in cases after the lockdown was lifted.
"The guesstimate, however, was a few thousand less infections than the current numbers on the official dashboard," an official said.
In another tweet, the government predicted that cases will soar to 300000 by end of June and 1.2 million by July-end.
Currently, Pakistan has reported 160,118 cases and 3,093 deaths.
