Judicial Commission meets to consider Judges appointment issue

Chairman and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will preside over the meeting of the Commission, the highest forum in the country which has been functional to make appointments to superior judiciary under the 18th Amendment.

Other members of the Commission are Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Justice Nasir ul Mulk, senior judges of the apex Court, Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq, Pakistan Bar Council member Dr Khalid Ranjha and Justice (retd) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry.

Minister for Law and Justice is also member of the Commission, but after the resignation of Dr Babar Awan, the government has to yet appoint a minister in his place.

The Secretary, Judicial Commission of Pakistan has written a letter pointing out that meeting of Under Article 175A (2) of the Constitution, Federal Minister for Law and Justice is a member of the Commission after he was directed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chairman, Judicial Commission of Pakistan that the matter be brought to the notice of the Principal Secretary to the President and Prime Minster as well as Cabinet Secretary and Secretary, Law & Justice Division for information and further necessary action.

All the four Chief Justices of High Courts including Chief Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court (LHC), Chief Justice Sindh High Court Mushir Alam, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa have also been a part of the Commission.
