Pakistan wants strong economic ties with US: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday said Pakistan wants strong economic ties with the United States during Pakistan-US investment conference in Dubai, a private news channel reported.

According to the channel the Minister said that national economy faces major challenges of deficit and balance of payment, a strategy has been formulated to resolve all economic challenges being faced by the country.

Ishaq Dar said subsidies would now target particular segments of the population and a strong social protection system would be introduced to tackle the issue of poverty.

He stated another challenge confronting the country is energy shortage.

Earlier addressing the conference, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif said vast scope of investment exists in Pakistan's energy sector.

He said investment-friendly environment prevails in the country due to an independent judiciary and vibrant media. He said the government plans to begin process of privatization of state-owned enterprises on priority.
