According to reports, the blast occurred when a man on a motorcycle blew himself up when he was stopped for routine checking.

An hour earlier a teenage suicide attacker in Lahore killed at least 13 and injured more than 50 when he was stopped at the first layer of security near a Chehlum procession of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said they had targeted the police in retaliation to drone attacks in their areas in northwest Pakistan.
