PAF Mianwali Base renamed as M.M. Alam Airbase

MIANWALI: Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif unveiled a monument to rename PAF Mianwali Base as M.M. Alam Airbase here on Thursday.

Federal Defence Minister, Khawja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid, Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Air Chief Marshal, Tahir Rafique Butt, former PAF, CAS, Air Chief Marshal (Retd), Rao Qamar Suleman, and other senior officials of PAF were present.

PAF Base, Mianwali was renamed to acknowledge meritorious services of great hero late Air Commodore, M.M. Alam on his first death anniversary.

M.M. Alam displayed exceptional professional and leadership qualities and emerged as PAF top scorer and ace pilot during Indo-Pak War in 1965.

M.M. Alam is known for downing five Indian fighter aircraft in less than one minute in the 1965 war against India.

Earlier, upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was received by CAS, PAF, Air Chief Marshal, Tahir Rafique Butt.

PAF Base Commander, Air Commodore Zaheer Mirza welcomed the distinguished guests and briefed them about the history and operational importance of the Air Base.

The ceremony was followed by an exhilarating aerial display by the PAF JF-17 Thunder, F-16, F-7P, Mirage and K-8 fighter and training aircraft.

Flying Wing Officer Commanding, Group Captain Fazalur Rehman led the aerial display.
