LONDON:European stock markets closed lower on Tuesday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index sliding 0.08 percent to 6,829 points.

In Paris, the CAC 40 closed down 0.50 percent at 4,452.37 points, while Frankfurt's DAX index lost 0.49 percent to 9,710.70 points.
