Taiwan stocks flat: Quanta, Acer up

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks were flat on Tuesday, tracking other regional bourses, as a sell-off by foreign investors continued to weigh on market sentiment.

As of 0145 GMT, the main TAIEX index was down 0.03 percent at 8,709.21. It had plunged 2.8 percent in the prior session on massive selling by foreign investors.

Foreign investors sold a net T$8.1 billion ($270 million) on Monday, extending the total to T$27.2 billion so far in the month.

The banking and financial sub-index slipped 0.1 percent, while electronics shares were up 0.2 percent.

Quanta Computer, the world's biggest contract laptop PC maker, jumped 0.6 percent. It had posted an 11.8 percent year-on-year gain in September sales.

PC vendor Acer climbed 1.4 percent despite September sales falling 5.7 percent from a year ago.

The Taiwan dollar was up 0.19 percent at T$30.392 to the US dollar.
