TOKYO: Japan's top government spokesman said on Tuesday the government is watching markets and the economy to make sure that the demerits posed by a weak yen do not become excessive.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga also told reporters that he did not want to comment on specific currency levels and that a weak yen has both positive and negative aspects.
