Taiwan stocks inch higher, led by chip makers on TSMC record earnings

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks were up slightly on Friday, boosted by record earnings at bellwether Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd, and some bargain hunting.

As of 0147 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 29.35 points to 8,663.04, after closing 0.25 percent lower on Thursday.

The electronics subindex was up 0.8 percent, while the semiconductor subindex was up 2 percent.

Shares in heavily-weighted TSMC were up 2.9 percent. On Thursday, the world's largest contract chip maker reported record quarterly sales for the third quarter.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.011 to stand at T$30.399 to the US dollar.
