The rulers of high speed internet

05 Mar, 2013

While it seems that with the growing broadband internet and services alike have kept the technology companies at its toes, unfortunately, it is also true that the internet download speeds in the country come nowhere close to the peaks reached elsewhere in the world. Compared to the nascent stages where the country is in terms of internet and broadband technology, the whopping progress of some countries truly sets up a challenging benchmark.
The second question: where does United States stands? No matter how much one denies, one expects the US to be amongst the toppers. The latest global compilation by Akamai Technologies pushes US out of the top 10 for the highest internet speed.
Downloading an HD movie in a couple of minutes? Well its possible in Hong Kong, which has been crowned with the highest peak internet speed rank as the city was found to cross the highest ever reached global speed of 50 megabytes per second in 2012. With a blazing internet use, government support and nonexistent content censorship, the average speed in Hong Kong was 54.1 megabytes per second.
And just across the border, things get messier. With high government regulation and censorship, the place not to be for speedy downloads is China. Despite the recent growth connection speeds, the average peak speed for china was just around 7.1 megabytes per second making China as one of the slowest in Asia and global ranking.
Moreover, the details of the report titled The State of the Internet have also pointed out China as one of the top sources of internet attacks. Nearly 51 percent of the attacks originate from China with just over 23 percent in US, under 25 percent from Europe and only one percent from Africa.
The love for online gaming in South Korea, booming telecommunication technology in Japan, finance and technology industry in Switzerland and Singapore have been enough for these countries to be in the running for the top slot.
On the fastest average speed scale, South Korea beats Hong Kong with an average speed of 14.7 megabytes per second followed by the other technology giant, Japan.
