Khawaja Asif for exploring AJK's hydel potential

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif Thursday urged the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government to explore its huge hydel potential to attain self-sufficiency in power generation.

In a meeting with AJK, Prime Minister, Chaudhry Abdul Majid here at Ministry of Water and Power, Khawaja Asif said that there were ample opportunities available on run of the river hydel generation capacity in the territory which could add positively in the government's efforts to combat power shortage in the country.

The Minister reiterated the government's resolve to provide all technical assistance to the AJK Government for launching of small hydel power projects .

Highlighting the importance of small hydel projects, the Minister said that it would not only generate energy but also open vistas for economic activities including job opportunities for the people of the area.

He assured that present gap between demand and supply of power in AJK would be minimized.

He also assured that the Ministry would sort out all electricity related issues of AJK in consultation with all stake holders on priority.
