England's Swann still sidelined

Swann, on his Nottinghamshire home ground, had made a valuable 28 when he was out after being struck on the left hand by a rising ball from Praveen Kumar he could only glove to Abhinav Mukund at third slip.

A visibly pained Swann, who had helped county colleague Stuart Broad add 73 for the ninth wicket at better than a run-ball, walked off, although the one consolation for England is that the off-spinner is a right-arm bowler.

An England statement Friday said the X-ray had found "no significant damage" and that Swann, the team's lone specialist spinner, was to be re-assessed on Saturday but was "expected to bowl".

Swann was still of the field at the start of Saturday's play as India resumed on 24 for one, a deficit of 197 runs, in reply to England's first innings 221.

England lead this four-match series 1-0 after a 196-run win in the first Test at Lord's.
