Sindh govt closely monitoring flood situation: Sassi

Talking to a private news channel, she said that a lot was talked about the disaster management during Musharraf regime but practical steps had not been taken.

Sassi Palejo said that LBOD [Left Bank Outfall Drain] and RBOD [Right Bank Outfall Drain] are dangerous drains which carry flood waters.

She said that a lot of people have been displaced due to the recent floods in Thatta, where a huge number of people have been affected due to floods.

She appreciated Prime Minister's offer that the federal government would come forward for the assistance of Sindh government.

She said that the Prime Minister has issued direction to NADRA for immediate issuance of Watan Cards for the affected people to enable them to do something for their food and shelter.

To a question whether the preemptive measures should not be taken before floods, she said that there was a need for the preventive measures; Sassi Palejo lauded the establishment of a separate ministry for rehabilitation.

She said that legislation would have to be done for capacity building.

Sassi Palejo said that the Chief Minister Sindh is personally monitoring the situation but a lot is needed to be done in this regard.
