PESCO restores power supply system in flood hit areas of Chitral: Amir Muqam

CHITRAL: Advisor to Prime Minister Amir Muqam Tuesday said that Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has completely restored power supply system in flood hit areas of Chitral.

Addressing a press conference here, he said Pakistan Baitul Mal has announced Rs 50,000 for the heirs of each deceased, who have been killed in the floods. The amount is in addition to compensation being announced by federal and provincial governments for the effectees.

He said the Prime Minister has earmarked Rs 500 million for restoration of flood hit areas.

Pakistan Army, FWO, National Highway Authority, Pesco, notables of flood hit areas, provincial, federal departments and political parties were jointly conducting relief operation in Chitral and adjacent areas.

He lauded relief operation of Pakistan Army and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). The main focus would be repairing and rehabilitating suspension bridges, he added.

A 132 kv grid station would be constructed in Chitral for addressing low voltage problem.The Grid station would be linked with 100mw under construction Golen Gol Hydro power project, which would start production within next two years.

In flood hit areas 10 utility stores have been established to provide essential item of daily use to flood hit area people. A summery has already been moved to provide essential items to Chitralis on subsidised rates at utility stores.

Five mobile utility stores have also been working in the flood hit areas.A warehouse has also been established to ensure persistent utility items to flood hit people. Nine loaded trucks already reached Chitral from Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) management has been directed to help flood hit people.

The road network from Chitral to Shindoor would be expanded and federalised, he said.

Chitral would be connected with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Chitral would also be linked with Afghanistan and Tajakistan. Chitral- Chakdara road would be rehabilitated and expanded, he added.
