German Special Envoy on Pak-Afghanistan calls Ayaz Sadiq

ISLAMABAD: German Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan Ms. Sabine Sparwasser Monday called on Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Parliament House.

German Ambassador-designate Ms. Inna Lepel also accompanied the Special Envoy, said a press release issued here.

Various issues of mutual interest including latest developments in Pakistan and Germany bilateral parliamentary relations came under discussion.

The Speaker said that both the countries had a tradition of good and amicable relations and appreciates German support for strengthening democratic institutions and stable development in Pakistan.

Ayaz Sadiq and the German Representative underlined the need for exploring possibilities of enhancing cooperation between the two legislatures.

He said that parliamentary diplomacy could contribute towards strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on global and regional issues.

The Speaker said that Pakistan envisioned a peaceful region and a neighborhood.

He said that Pakistan would support Afghan initiatives to reinforce its efforts for peace and economic stability.

He said that political engagement from either side would bring both the nations more closer.

Sabine Sparwasser said that her country also attached immense importance to its relations with Pakistan and wanted to further diversify those through active engagement in all sectors.

She expressed her satisfaction on the pace of Pak-Afghan political engagement.

The Special Envoy observed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was imperative for the progress of the region.

She also conveyed the invitation by President of the German Bundestag to Speaker National Assembly to visit Germany, which he accepted.
