Resolution of Kashmir dispute imperative for regional peace: Ayaz Sadiq

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Thursday said that resolution of longstanding dispute of Kashmir was imperative for regional peace and stability. He stated this while talking to special representative of Germany for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser, who called on him here at National Assembly.

He asked Germany to play its role in settling the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

Speaker National Assembly pointed out that Kashmir dispute was a bone of contention between India and Pakistan for more than six decades which was igniting wars and conflicts across working boundaries of the both countries.

He said that international community needed to focus on Kashmir dispute for enduring peace and stability in South Asia.

Referring to Pakistan's steps for establishing peace in Afghanistan, the Speaker said that Pakistan enjoyed cordial relations with its neighboring country and desired a stable and prosperous Afghanistan for regional stability.

He said that political and military leadership of the two countries were in constant contact and discussing issues pertaining to security of the region.

He appreciated German forces for their role in maintaining law and order in Afghanistan.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stressed upon the international community for devising a global strategy to address menace of terrorism and extremism confronting by the world.

He said that Pakistan had been the worst hit by the terrorism and was taking strong measures for eradicating the menace.

He said that present government was committed to root out terrorism from the country adding that it had launched a military operation against the menace by taking all political leadership of the country on board.

The Speaker underlined the need for strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Germany through active parliamentary interaction.

He said that parliamentarians from both side could bring the two nations closer.

He extended his invitation to German parliamentarians to visit Pakistan to witness peaceful environment of the country which was countary to what media portrayed it to the West.

Sabine Sparwasser thanked the Speaker for the kind hospitality which was extended to her during her visit to Pakistan.

She agreed on enhancing parliamentary interaction between Germany and Pakistan and said that legislatures of both the countries could learn from each other.

She said that Germany acknowledged Pakistan's significant role for peace initiatives in the region and extended her government's support in this regard.

She said that Germany also appreciated resilience and courage exhibited by the people of Pakistan and their sacrifices rendered in War against terrorism.

She agreed that Global peace was at threat due to terrorism for which joint efforts were required.

She said that Pakistan had played a vital role in development and peace in Afghanistan by hosting Heart of Asia Conference in Islamabad and expressed hope that outcome of the conference would help stakeholders to form future plan of action.
