Hong Kong stocks surge at open after nine days of losses

HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks rallied in the first few minutes of trade Wednesday following a nine-session losing streak as dealers took their lead from strong performances in New York and Europe.

The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong added 1.70 percent, or 361.40 points, to 21,635.77.

In Shanghai the composite index added 0.33 percent or 11.74 points, to 3,522.09, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, gained 0.34 percent, or 7.72 points, to 2,272.44.
