The Federal government is actively considering establishing industrial cluster parks at Sialkot, Karachi and Lahore in near future, official sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
According to the sources the industrial parks would be developed in Sialkot for sports goods and surgical instruments, auto-parts, electrical appliances and knitwear in Karachi while in Lahore will be developed for the promotion of small and medium enterprises, knitwear and electrical appliances.
The present regime is making strenuous efforts for bringing revolutionary changes in industrial sector enabling it to deal with global challenges effortlessly.
The idea behind setting up of industrial cluster parks is to facilitate the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of these cities.
The ready factory building will be provided on rent or lease followed by ownership while the provision of well-developed physical infrastructure and other support services will also be ensured in industrial cluster parks.
The setting up of industrial cluster parks would be supportive in promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of these industrial cities of the country. The scheme would also provide an opportunity for bringing out small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from economic and mental pressure and enable them to play a vital role in boosting up the business activities.
In addition to this the establishment of industrial cluster parks would not only encourage the SMEs but also supportive for developing new entrepreneurs.
The setting up of flatted factories as has been successfully done in different countries like Singapore, China, Japan, Thailand and India and providing business development and support services which includes training, market assistance, financial assistance and proper guidance in formation of local and foreign linkages on clusters.
The flatted factories were usually multistoried industrial buildings which can accommodate different type of business by providing ready building space along with utilities and other common facilities to SMEs on rental or lease and ownership who intend to set up and expand their business in much conducive and purpose built environment.
The mission of the government is to enable the small and medium enterprises to overcome the hurdles in the way of their rapid growth in different sectors as well as to face the new challenges from globalisation.
Sources disclosed that Board of Investment (BoI), Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan (EPB) Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) and Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) would back the proposed industrial cluster project.
Undoubtedly, the establishment of these proposed industrial cluster parks in these industrial cities would help accelerate the activities of SMEs by reducing the metal pressure and ultimately they would play an instrumental role in bringing boom in export of the country.
