Establishment of National Centre for Mathematics approved

To develop human resources and research capability indigenously in Mathematics the Higher Education Commission has approved the establishment of a National Centre for Mathematics (NCM) in one of the Public Sector Universities.
According to HEC sources, the NCM's responsibilities will include: planning, executing and evaluating the development of mathematics and research at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
The criteria for selection of the university that establishes the NCM will include, but not be limited to:
A degree of academic autonomy should be ensured for the NCM; Infrastructure and facilities should be in place to house the NCM, and Preference will be given to universities offering a four-year BSc programme in Mathematics.
Public universities are invited to send proposals to the Higher Education Commission for the establishment of the NCM. The deadline for submission of the proposal is February 1.
