Hizbul Mujahideen to adopt new strategy if Saarc summit fails

05 Jan, 2004

Hizbul Mujahideen has warned that if Saarc summit fails to resolve the Kashmir issue, the group would adopt a new strategy to get the occupied Jammu and Kashmir rid of the Indian occupation.
The chief operational commander of the Hizb, Gazi Nasiruddin, in a press statement, said the Kashmir issue has entered a decisive phase.
"If talks between India and Pakistan fail at the Saarc summit, we would change our strategy and adopt fresh measures to get the held state rid of occupation," quoting him Kashmir Media Service reported on Sunday.
"If the talks fail the efforts to strengthen the militancy would increase, he said, adding, "we will change our strategy and make our armed struggle more effective."
PUPPET CHIEF MINISTER'S CALL: Reacting sharply to the demand of the puppet chief minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, to the Mujahideen to drop their guns, he said, they would instead continue their fight until "the forced occupation of the state continues".
"Mufti's call is unjustified as Jammu & Kashmir is under the forced occupation of India. How can we drop our arms when there are around 800,000 Indian troops in the held state," he asked.
The Hizb commander said Mujahideen have not taken up arms out of any recreation or love for violence. "But, we were forced by India to take up arms as they denied any democratic right to the people of the state," he said.
The Jihadi group also reacted sharply to the demand of opening Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.
"The decision would not solve the Kashmir issue and neither would such devious slogans in its favour do anything," he said.
Nasiruddin said that instead of making an appeal to the Mujahideen to drop their arms, Mufti should have urged New Delhi "to stop human rights violations here and declare Kashmir a disputed territory".
