The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said its eastern market indicator (EMI) rose two cents to 777 cents a kg clean on Tuesday when sales resumed for 2004.
AWEX said its southern indicator (Melbourne) added two cents to 761 c/kg. There were no sales in Sydney or Fremantle.
On a small offering, the recent rises in the AUD/USD exchange rate were not reflected in main merino types. Push in the 19.5 micron and finer category saw up to 10 cent increases with most improvements occurring in the best styled or better types.
Medium to broader microns remained firm as per initial quote with the exception of the 21 micron MPG which was slightly cheaper after receiving solid support in the previous sale in an otherwise weak market.
Of the 5,869 bales offered, 8.3 percent was passed.
